An immense log cabin, Canadian style

Working hard sometimes gives you the luxury of playing hard, or, playing easy, as Michel and I sometimes have the opportunity to do.  Recently, we decided to run away together before any social engagements or appearances could be booked.  Our escape led us to the Fairmont Chateau Montebello.

I don't think anything can compete with the rugged charm of this hotel.  It's an immense and stunning red cedar log hotel, steeped in luxury.  Past guests include celebrities and world leaders, including President Bush.

Michel and I love to horseback ride, play tennis, dogsled and go tubing (in the winter), and this hotel has it all.  As you may have guessed, although we love the luxury this hotel has to offer, we love the outdoors and sports of all kinds even better.  (Michel is not one to sit around.  With some prodding, neither am I.)

As soon as your car swings up the drive of this immense, impressive hotel, you are greeted by stately uniformed doormen all with romantic French accents.  Ready to offer you any assistance, it's easy to breath a sigh of relief that all will be taken care of at the Chateau.

The rooms are cute and quaint.  No opulent marble and gold here, just luxury a-la-Canadian-ski-chateau.  A perfect fit when you want to relax in a cosy, welcoming room.

The cosy bed all wrapped in tartan

The quietest pool I have ever had the pleasure to swim in
One of the most beautiful things about this hotel is its pool.  As soon as you enter through the doors leading into the pool room, you feel as if you have stepped back in time to an era gone by.  Stained glass windows, hand painted wooden ceilings laced with gold, and massive wooden windows makes even the most experienced hotel visitor's heart skip a beat.  The best thing?  Unlike most pools, this one is often so quiet you can hear a pin drop.  Heaven.

Hopefully one day you will be able to see this hotel for yourself.  If you do, and you happen to see Michel and I, say hello.  He'll be the one doing laps and giving me a kiss as he swims passed me.  I'll be the one floating, staring up at that beautiful ceiling.
